Turtle Camp with the Interns.

Saturday we: our DMT’s: Syahril, Ilham, Sary from our local training programme, Bjorn from the Netherlands, Elle from China, candidates: Opang and Deys, instructor: Andi and I: Charity gotten back from a 4 day trip to Turtle Conservation Camp. And what a trip it was!
I can still hear the enthusiasm in Syahril’s voice when he says: “MY TRIP!” While the rest would follow: “MY ADVENTURE!”

Day 1

We started our first day with a visit to the Kepala Desa, the head of the village for a welcoming ceremony, playing football and volleyball with the local kids and setting up our tents.

Day 2
Then we went on from beach clean ups every morning, to English lessons in the afternoon on day 2.

Hey Spiderman

These guys make everything fun.

We had students from all ages. Sary taking care of the baby so another lady could join class.

Day 3

…and finally a turtle conservation presentation on day 3.

Still excited after sunset and gumballs:p

Ilham: “Turtles return to the beach they were born. So never forget where you come from okay?!”

Then it was Syahril’s turn who just as these kids is from South Lembor as well.
He was sharing how diving changed his life and was now making a change in the life of others. Teaching, inspiring and motivating them to be good students and learn English. How  beautiful is that!

“Who wants to become a divemaster?” [Raising hands]
“Who wants to become a teacher?”
“Who wants to become…”

It was absolutely brilliant seeing all these eyes lid up, dreaming and full of hope and potential.

Then Sary, one of the first female to become a Divemaster in Komodo proceeded:

“And never let anyone tell you you can not do something just because you are a girl! Because you can! When I wanted to start diving everyone told me not to do it. They said it was only for men, but I went through with the program anyway and here I am now. Whatever you want to become, it’s possible if you just go for it!”

Day 4

Another beach clean up morning. And oh, we found a giant turtle as well :p

Gone for a hot spring shower.

Finally we would like to take this opportunity to thank you. This all would not be possible without you! Thanks to our 2% policy your money goes towards these programmes.

You are a part of what is happening here and we truly believe that we together we are making this world a better place one dive at a time.

Thank you.
