Raja Ampat Dive sites: Manta Sandy

Manta Sandy is a signature Raja Ampat Dive Site. Between the months of October and April great numbers of Manta Rays congregate in the shallow, plankton rich waters to feed. Located centrally and with a major Manta Ray “cleaning station” combined with the ability to get real close to the mantas make this a great site for snorkelers and free divers as well scuba divers. It can be hit or miss whether the amazing creatures will show up at this cleaning station, but when they do, they often arrive in squadrons!

Located at the far end of Mansour Island from Waisai, it is reachable by daytrips from the Resort or as part of the Liveaboards. Many times there will more than 4 mantas waiting to get cleaned – while many more pass by. As the name implies this is a sandy bottom which is great place to watch these magnificent underwater acrobats.

The main cleaning station is located at around 12 to 15 meters. While they are being cleaned each manta will stay for over two minutes watch and many will stay close to ten minutes giving you plenty of time to take great photos.
