(Wicked Diving Komodo) We arrived late in the first afternoon via a charter as we missed the connection. This boat trip was spectacular, the water was clear and glassed off.After arriving we had a briefing of what was what on the boat. We also had the couples cabin which was great as we were the oldest on board, good to see we still have some seniority rules in place. First dive was manta cleaning station, spectacular with 5 large mantas and a great array of sea life.After this dive we had some faster drift dives which pumped up the adrenaline. With only 20 dives under my belt i was a little cautious but was totally accounted for with amazing dive masters and his and her students looking after me. I felt very safe. This was then followed up the next 2 days with a great pre dive briefing explaining the site and its conditions. This was critical for me as i then had total confidence in what i was going to expect. Sass, Freddie and Max were great. After been a surfer for many years and living on top of the water you have a real struggle accepting been under,this trip helped me overcome that experience. I cannot tell you how good it is to feel comfortable during a dive. Thanks wicked.
These are crazy times aren’t they? At this point - we all know the virus is there and has affected almost every aspect of our world. Almost every continent and country has been affected. Almost certainly each of us is directly impacted in one form or another.
However, we are not asking for help with our business. We are asking for help in the community. With tourism shut down, there is no income. In Flores/Komodo a whole generation has grown up entirely dependent on tourism. This was already a marginal area, with very few other employment options available. Now it has become a crisis. We have done all we can to aid and assist in providing for our own staff and their families, but the whole region is struggling. The lack of tourism has impacted every industry and most families.
This has gone from an inconvenience to a disaster. Most parents are unable to provide for their children.
