Similan Diving Sites
Similan Dive Sites
The Similan Islands are located just 50 km off the coast of Khao Lak and provide the best diving in Thailand. The nine islands are covered in thick tropical jungle, sprinkled with powder white beaches and surrounded with crystal clear waters. Underwater – Walls, Boulders, Canyons, sloping reefs and a massive selection of Marine Life – all waiting for you.
Among the most famous dive sites are Richelieu Rock, Koh Bon, and Elephant Head Rock. All these sites can be reached by day trip or liveaboard. In some cases (Richelieu Rock) the sites are simply not safe for speedboats during bad weather and can only be reached by liveaboard.
A few years ago, the Thai government intentionally sank this fiberglass hulled fishing boat to create a new dive site. While a great site, it still has a few more years to go. The fiberglass of the boat hull isn’t great for growing corals, but you will find several really interesting species in and around the wreck.
Richelieu Rock – Since there is just so much to see at this dive site, the guides usually schedule more than one dive here. You will appreciate the chance to experience all these attractions, plus schools of mackerels and barracudas, more than once.

-Many nooks & crevices filled with critters

North Point Usually Marked by an unassuming red buoy which drops down to around 20 meters at the north of the dive site. Characterised by large rocks interspersed with sand and dead corals. Whip corals reach up from the sea bed, while gorgonian fan corals often with feather stars hanging from them protrude from the side of the rocks.
-Great Boulder Formations
-Turtles in the shallows (safety stop)

Breakfast Bend – one of the best reefs in the area, with vibrant colors and fish. Typical of the Eastern side of the Similans, there is a nice shallow flat area from 0-8 meters (0-25 feet) that is rich in small bommies interspersed with sandy patches. Plenty of fish, making the shallows great for snorkeling and beginning dives.
