Khao Lak Diving Tours
The Diving around Khao Lak offers some amazing opportunities that surprise and delight even the most experienced of divers. There are 2 local wrecks that are easily reached by our longtail: Bon Soong and Seachart. There is also an incredible Lake Dive nearby in Khao Sok National Park where we dive along cliff faces and over the tops of submerged trees in this man-made lake.
At these sites the visibility is not the 20-30 meters that makes the Similans so famous – however the amount of fish life, the differing eco-systems and the exotic locations make for some fascinating diving. The Shipwrecks are massive fish attractors and have a density of marine life unlike anywhere found on the reefs of the Similan Islands – on even in Thailand! They have also become grerat nurseries for juveniles of the many species found in our area. The lake features geology found nowhere else on earth combined with the opportunity to swim over treetops in these submerged forests.
Khao Sok Lake Diving
The most popular with our guests (And featured in Dive Magazine) – is the truly unique dive – is Khao Sok Lake diving. Overnight (2 or 3 days) in a massive lake, puttering along huge limestone cliffs that are encrusted in pirmary jungle and hyperactive with wildlife. Dropping in for a dive along a limestone cliff, often in places never dived by any human, we explore nooks, hover over treetops that were submereged 30 years ago and encounter huge fish as they populate this new lake. We sleep ON the lake in floating rafthouses.
Khao Lak Diving – Wrecks
In the sea – the two main sites we visit are the Bon Soong Wreck – home to the highest concentration of marine life of any site on the Andaman coast. A few times a week – we visit the Seachart, a small freighter that was carrying illegal teak from Burma to Singapore. These trips are all done from our longtail and are shorter days than any of the Similan Trips. This makes for a later start and much earlier afternoon.
As the trips are done from our longtail – the trips are limited to jsut a few people and guides – no crowds. With plenty of time for surface intervals and relaxing – the pace on these trips makes for a great day’s adventure.
