Daytrip Koh Tachai – Koh Bon
Visit these exciting dive sites aboard our comfortable boat
Join us on this daytrip that brings you to two of the very best sites in the region Koh Bon and Koh Tachai. These two dive sites are unique in the area and always seem to have a surprise waiting on each dive. Both dive sites offer some of the best chances in the region to see big pelagics. While Koh Bon has the steep walls and ridge that makes it famous for Manta Rays, Koh Tachai brings you the flat plateau in the open ocean. Distance and currents make this trip a once-a-week affair and is only recommended for experienced divers. Great to combine with a daytrip to the Similans or one of our local wrecks!
We will pick you up in the morning at your resort and drive you to the pier where our large and comfortable boat is waiting for you. Your First dive will be at Koh Tachai due to depth and distance. After we finish off this incredible dive, we’ll head down to Koh Bon where we’ll have lunch in the protected bay. The afternoon dive brings us to the West Ridge at Koh Bon and then we head home. This gives you the opportunity to do some great diving and still sleep at your resort each night. The weather permitting, we will have you back in your resort for sunset drinks. What a life!
Only 5,800 Baht (what’s included?)

Koh Tachai Plateau – marine life and topography
Koh Tachai is an island with a stunning white beach on the east side and big granite boulders on the west. North of it are the Surin Islands and south the Similan Islands. The divesite is a submerged rock formation a bit south of the island. It starts at around 12 meters and drops down all the way to 30 meters and beyond. Many amazing creatures are seen here including nudibranchs, pipefishes, mantis shrimps, sea snakes and moray eels. There are huge schools of fusiliers and anthias on top of the plateau. Trevallies swim in the blue looking for their next meal and you can see groupers, batfish, sweetlips and rainbow runners as well. It is also one of the only places to find the Oceanic Triggerfish. Quite often you can see a Leopard Shark on the bottom and if you are lucky, you might encounter a Manta Ray hovering over the plateau.
This is the kind of site where you should always look for the small things, and you will find some amazing stuff. If the Mantas do arrive, you have seen both the little and the large, always a good combination.
The divesite is infamous for its strong currents and thermoclines appearing from the deep. Although you can always find relative calm waters behind the boulders at depth you might end up doing your safety stop horizontal at the bouyline…

Koh Bon – marine life and topography
Koh Bon is a limestone pinnacle situated in the middle of nowhere. It is surrounded by deep waters and attracts a great variety of marine life, from small to big. Groups of snapper can be found resting on the top of ledges, octopus can frequently be seen amongst the corals. Various types of anemone host clownfish around the site. Red-banded cleaner shrimp work under coral ledges and in the sand you can find purple and red fire gobies. It is most famous for its frequent manta sightings and whale shark sightings are occasional. Frogfish, ghost pipefish and juvenile angelfish, trumpetfish and cube boxfish can also be found by those with a keen eye. If you are lucky you might see some rare stuff like a mobula ray or sholvelnose ray. Work back to the mooring line for the safety stop. Currents can be strong, but there is always a sheltered area where you can make a comfortable dive.
