Rescue Diver Course
Join our Serious (and fun) Rescue Diver course. Safer diving – more fun
Rescue Divers learn to look beyond themselves and how to deal with problems before, during or after the dive. But even more important they learn how to recognize stress in divers and thus to prevent problems from happening in the first place. Although this course is challenging, it is a rewarding way to build your confidence and skills. Rescue Diver training will prepare you to help yourself and the divers around you, even managing dive emergencies. When you dive a lot you will notice that there is always the chance on problems. From a broken mask strap, problems equalizing to panicked divers or even diving injuries. Although it’s difficult to go over all possible problems, we will teach you the right mentality and the general steps how to deal with these problems.

- Realistic scenarios to test your progress
- The Rescue Course can be done with SSI or PADI
Khao Lak Rescue Diver Course – 3 days
Rather than just worrying about what happens AFTER an accident happens – at Wicked Diving – our Khao Lak Rescue Diver Course focuses on stress and how this can lead to accidents. We explain how dives should be conducted in a safe way so that everyone has a good time in an environment where stress is not factor. We focus on reducing or eliminating the factors that cause stress, the reason that most accidents happen. We keep the groups small so you get all the time to practice and make use of assistants to make the course as realistic as possible.
Our Rescue course is especially designed to expose you to problems and scenarios that you may one day have to deal with. During your training the Wicked Dive team will equip you with the specific skills and techniques you will need to be able to confidently and decisively manage the situation. We share our extensive knowledge of dive accidents, we will teach you a whole new set of skills and of course we will familiarize you with equipment you need in Rescue Scenarios. Our staff are not only very experienced, but we are the official evacuation center for the Similan Islands and we even have a Dive Medic on staff.
Who can do the Rescue Diver Training?
Virtually anyone who is in good health, reasonably fit, and comfortable in the water can earn an Rescue Diver Certification. To start the course you need to have the following:
- Proof of diver training at open water level
- Current First Aid/CPR certification (within the last 24 months)
- Must be at least 15 years of age
- Positive attitude, willing to take care of other people
How long does the Rescue Diver Course in Khao Lak take?
Start dates are flexible and the course normally takes 3 full days. If you don’t have a 1st Aid / CPR course or it has expired, you will need to do that before the course starts. The EFR Course at Wicked Diving takes one full day. We keep the groups small to give you plenty of time for practice and use assistants (victims) to make things as realistic as possible. At Wicked we are not prepared to put anyone at risk by cutting corners to provide so called “cheap” diver training. We do it right.
The first two days of the course are split up between theory and in-water practice. The theory is done in our air conditioned classroom. There is a Rescue Diver manual, DVD and you will get lectures from your instructor. At the end of the course there is a final exam. Theory is split in two sections: Stress and Rescue. In the first section we look at what stress is, how it affects divers and their safety and how to deal with stress in a correct way. In the second section you learn how to respond to problems and how to rescue people. During in-water practice we learn how to respond to problems: Helping a tired diver or approaching a panicked diver. Looking for a missing diver and dealing with an unconscious diver. And all other sorts of problems are covered. Be prepared – anything can happen!
On the last day we go to one of our local divesites with a longtail boat. There we will practice rescue scenario’s. You should be ready to respond to basically every situation so we will put you in charge that day and make sure that everyone comes back safe and sound. So keep your eyes and ears open and take control of whatever happens….
Yes this course is very intense and serious but without doubt the most rewarding course you have done – so far! Scenarios drawn from our real-world experience in Diving and Dive Medics will enrich this course with reality and knowledge that you can find nowhere else. At the end of the course you will receive your Rescue Diver certification.
Afterwards? More diving? Maybe join the next liveaboard trip to the Similan Islands or Richelieu Rock, a daytrip to the local wrecks or even start in on your Divemaster Training !
What’s included in the price?

All Courses are to the strictest training standards and we will cut no corners. Courses are done with SSI (Scuba Schools International), unless otherwise noted. The same course can be conducted as a PADI Rescue Diver course – but there will be a surcharge as PADI requires the purchase of the books and materials as part of the course – SSI does not. Otherwise there is no difference in standards or safety between the two systems.
