Thanks to the great training and great staff at Wicked, I am now working full time as a Divemaster for Big Blue Diving in Koh Tao (www.bigbluediving.com). I arrived here about two weeks ago, and so far it has been great!! Lots to learn and lots of diving…Thankfully, the crew at Wicked gave me the foundation for my up and coming diving career!! I was lucky enough to get hired on by one of the best and busiest dive shops in Thailand and things are going awesome!! My office is only 6 meters from the beach, I get to dive everyday and I am working with a big team of fun people from all over the world. Life is pretty good!!
My DMT course was amazing – I met a lot of new people, made some really great friends and learned A LOT!! The course was thorough, well-planned , but most of all – it was fun!! I arrived in Khao Lak in the beginning of October as a relatively inexperienced holiday diver and left a fully qualified Divemaster in about 8 weeks. A lot happens in 8 weeks. Reading, exams, lectures, studying….oh yeah, and diving!! Really amazing wicked diving!! The highlight of my course, aside from our DM Challenge was easily doing the live-aboard dive trips. 3 days of doing nothing but diving in the Similan Islands!! WOW!! Also, high up there on the list is the Boonsung Wreck!! One of my favourite divesites in Thailand. I was lucky enough to dive it many times and it is a truly amazing site!! I still remember descending down the buoy line on one of my last trips there and coming upon a few Lionfish. Awesome!! Then I began to notice more and more…24 BIG Lionfish in one free swimming group!! On that particular dive, I just stopped counting after forty!! Not to mention the dozens of eels, scorpionfish, nudiebranchs, and even the odd deadly stonefish!! All of this and just off of the coast of Khao Lak!! Other highlights were a bit more fuzzy and usually involve the Happy Snapper Bar but all of them include the great friends that I made while at Wicked.
A lot of dive operators offer Divemaster programs and I know it was a difficult choice for me in deciding on where and with whom to take this course. I sent off many emails all over the world and after finishing my course with Wicked Diving – I couldn’t be happier. The company is a well run business, with a great staff that feel more like family than mentors. They are like minded, fun people who are environmentally conscious, eco-friendly and who go the extra mile for you. They become true friends and really put a lot of effort into their Divemaster Program. If you are considering the Divemaster program, look no further, email the great people at Wicked and ask when the next course is available…You will not regret it.
All the best,
Paul Herygers
