It was my second visit to Komodo area with friends, booked a flight from Jakarta to Labuan Bajo, Flores. It was 3 hours flight (total) with over night at Denpasar, Bali. By the time we arrived in Labuan Bajo, Wicked Diving took care all the dive trip need on Cakrawala Biru Liveaboard. The boat itself has a good layout for passengers with most cabins on the same level as the dive deck. All staffs were amazing and couldn’t do enough to help. The Manager (Marianne) did a superb job and kept dives and sightseeing trips running smoothly and on time. Having said that, she always stressed that there was room for schedule adjustment should the need arise. Diving was varied and exciting with Marcel, Gafur and Sari as our guide, their knowledge of dive sites are excellent. The waters are crystal clear, healthy reefs beyond compare, colorful fish and unique critters hiding in sandy bottom. There were trekking to Rinca Island to meet with Komodo dragon, after we finished 9 dives, I can’t wait to return.
These are crazy times aren’t they? At this point - we all know the virus is there and has affected almost every aspect of our world. Almost every continent and country has been affected. Almost certainly each of us is directly impacted in one form or another.
However, we are not asking for help with our business. We are asking for help in the community. With tourism shut down, there is no income. In Flores/Komodo a whole generation has grown up entirely dependent on tourism. This was already a marginal area, with very few other employment options available. Now it has become a crisis. We have done all we can to aid and assist in providing for our own staff and their families, but the whole region is struggling. The lack of tourism has impacted every industry and most families.
This has gone from an inconvenience to a disaster. Most parents are unable to provide for their children.
